**Originally posted after I caught up with Homestuck back in April. This means all these opinions were formed after the March 30 update**

I am so sad I jumped onto the bandwagon so late, but better late than never, I suppose.

I'll be ranting more about characters and ships and Hussie than plot.

As far as characters go, generally Post-scratch trolls > pre-scratch trolls and beta kids > alpha kids.

My Top 5 Post-Scratch Trolls are Karkat, Terezi, Gamzee, Vriska, and Kanaya.

My favorite Pre-Scratch Trolls are Meenah and Aranea.

My Favorite Beta Kids are John and Jade.

My Favorite Alpha Kids are Roxy and Dirk.

My favorite Guardians have to be Bro Strider and Becquerel

My Top 10 characters in general are Karkat, Terezi, Jade, Roxy, Vriska, Gamzee, Bro Strider, Becquerel, Meena, John, and Kanaya.

Not that I don't love the other characters, but honestly, I'm kind of biased. Karkat is like this big ball on rage and insecurity who's trying to keep 12 violent, homicidal trolls from killing each other. Terezi is my zodiac, blind, and totally kickass. Jade is quirky and amusing and spacy, but can shoot like Riza Hawkeye. Roxy is an underaged drunk who keeps her and her three friends from imploding (considering two are from the future, two are from the past, and they're in a twisted love polygon), and doesn't complain about her own issues; she just settles her friend's issues first. Vriska's possibly last speech is amazing and she's actually a pretty awesome bitch. Gamzee is my patron troll, hilarious, and way creepy when off the sopor slime. Bro Strider is amazingly kickass and cool and fought Jack Noir. Becquerel was the First Guardian, with powers similar to those of Lord English, and manages to keep Jade safe after being absorbed by Jack Noir. Meenah is hilariously gangster, greedy, and grows up to run an insanely violent, dominating empire. John is our first main character who is adorably plucky and kindhearted in a world where most everyone else is kind of violent/negative/shit to everyone and everything.

Although he is my patron troll, and one of my favorites, GAMZEE SCARES THE EVER LOVING SHIT OUT OF ME. The only one who's even creepier in that regard is Caliborn/Lord English. And Kurloz.

~~~
Ships…
Okay, I ship Karkat <3 Terezi (even though I know it's been sunk forever), Gamzee <> Karkat (even though I know it's been sunk. WHY HUSSIE!? WHY!?), and Equius <> Nepeta like they're going out of style.
I will ship most other pairings too, as long as they're well written.
~~~

Hussie…

I can see why all my Homestuck friends are cursing out Hussie. He's an amazing writer, in that I am emotionally invested in this comic like I have never been before. He has made me giggle, squee, and cry in both anguish and joy. I have flailed like an idiot because of him as well.

BUT WHY DID HE HAVE TO SINK MY FAVORITE MOIRALLEGIANCE!?!?!?

So Brave is all kinds of awesome and kind of hurts.

The movie plays with the idea of fate, and how easy some people think it is to defy fate. as shown in the movie, IT'S NOT.

Merida is rebellious, independent, sarcastic, awesome and badass. Also, she is much needed snark when encountering the princes. And by sneaky, I mean the fact she chose archery, then entered herself in. And the fact that she spilt that one arrow in fact, and THEN her arrow lodged itself into the target's support stand.

Elinor is a lot like my mother. And well, I can see why both sides are upset with the proposal/marriage thing & each other's reactions, but I have to agree with Merida, who seriously badass. As a bear, she is hilariously, solely because of how out of depth she is. As a human, she is badass because she wades into a fight and drags the four fighting lords away from it by pulling them by their ears and she comes out of it unscathed.

Fergus is a hilarious dude, and I think he's a better father than a king. And his sarcasm. *thumbs up*

Harris, Hamish, and Hubert are amusing toddlers. Sneaky, underhanded, and obviously good at what they do. Including extortion. As bears, they're just even more amusing.

Young Macintosh is an arrogant, vain, prissy mofo. He sucks at archery, has no muscles to speak of, has fangirls, fights people by slapping them, and throws temper tantrums when things don't go his way. That's attractive not. Young MacGuffin doesn't look like he wants to be in this competition, and mumbles everything. I like him the best of the three princes, but that's just me. It helps that he uses a table like a staff. And Young Dingwall is obviously stoned as hell. And possibly rabid. I mean, he bit a guy.

The witch and her raven are awesome. The whole cauldron/voice mail part was hilarious, as was the fact that she had to put on a WELDING MASK when making the spell for Merida.

While the characters are awesome, the part of the movie that hurts is Merida and Elinor's relationship.

So, rant thing on Merida and her relationship with her mother, followed by a plot rant under the cut.

It's very similar to mine. The mother is always telling you what to do and what not to do. And you just want to grow on your own, and make your own decisions. And telling Merida, "I forbid it" during the archery contest was just asking Merida to shoot.

And the fight afterwards. It hurts. It hurts a lot. The talking over each other, the daughter asking for her mom to just listen for once, and the mom saying no, I'm the older, more mature, more experienced one here. Please tell me I'm not the only female who feels like she was dropped into one of her arguments with her mom when she was a teenager.

And I realize we do stupid shit in their anger, but really Elinor, you threw your daughter's bow into the fire! At least you realized how badly you fucked up.

Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks a will o' the wisp looks like a child beckoning you closer and sounds like now. And oh my god, you know something is wrong when the horse has more sense than you. But Angus is a loyal horse, and I love him for that.

Merida's bribe is hilarious, but her spell choice was crap. But as an emotional, distressed teenager who isn't thinking clearly, it's understandable. I think.

And when Merida comes back and Elinor is being all open and worried and mother hen, well, Merida looks so out of depth. It hurts, because it feels like Merida has never seen this side of her mother for so long that it's foreign to her. it should't be. And then Elinor fucks it up by continuing to talk about the proposal.

The spell Merida was given can only be mending the bonds torn by pride. I say it means that those two just need to reconcile. Fixing a tapestry seems too easy.

And the flashback/dream of Merida and Elinor during the storm hurts, because it's adorable and loving and such a 180 from their current relationship.

Elinor losing her sense of self is creepy, especially when accompanied by the story of Mordu, the prince who went to the witch so he could beat his siblings for the crown/kingdom, and ended up a bear until he dies.

The clans are at war. Great. But at least Fergus is okay with the idea of his daughter not marrying any of those three guys. I love how everyone stops when Merida comes in. But she's shit at this public speaking thing. At least her mom is showing her what to do behind the crowd. And oh my god, she got better at it. I seriously felt tears welling in my eyes. Okay, I did cry. Because Elinor finally gets it, and Merida finally realizes that being queen isn't as easy at it looks.

I feel so bad for Angus when he walks into his wife's room. The room is a mess, her dress is torn, and it's a dark, stormy night. Bad adult thoughts cross his mind, so he goes to find his daughter. In a room with a bear. A black bear. And then he attacks the bear. And they start fighting. Elinor's face when she notices what happened. D:

I feel bad for Maudie, who ends up the target of all of the triplet's schemes. Or most of them. Especially when the triplets (as adorable bear cubs) decide to divebomb into Maudie's cleavage for the key that keeps Merida locked in that room.

I love how Merida flipped that one guy, stole the other's sword, and then stopped her dad. She is so badass. And so is Mama Bear, for fighting Mordu. And then bashing him into the pillar enough so that the pillar fell ON him.

I am Merida when she's crying for her mom after the fight. Because this is me after we get into a huge fight, and I want it fixed.

Of Fergus. First the kiss, then staring at your naked wife. I like you.

This ending. I like it. There is no romance for the main character, no war, and the boys continue to get into trouble.

And then we get the witch, coming to deliver the wood carvings Merida bought as a bribe.

OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!!!!!!!

THAT WAS AN AMAZING MOVIE.

I don't think you understand how much I adore every single one of the Guardians.

Jack is my favorite though, because holy cow, 300 YEARS of not being believed in, and he's still willing to start Snow Days and have fun with kids who can't see him. The only thing weird was the fact that Jack's voice was nothing like I imagined it to be. And despite not being an acknowledged Guardian, he still made kids laugh and have fun.

And speaking of kids, Jamie is so freaking adorable. His sister Sophie too.

And oh my god, sisters. Jack's sister! I feel horrible for her. I mean, she watched her big brother die. The same one who played with her and was with her instead of acting his age/being an adult/growing up. I'd be freaking traumatized.

And well, I have a bone to pick with the Man in the Moon, because really, just telling Jack his name and nothing else is… cruel? I mean, he has no idea why he's alive, no memories before he awoke in the water, and no one can see him. I'm amazed he wasn't a depressive wreck. Or Pitch.

And I don't think the Guardians were very helpful either. No one tried to get to know him. I mean, seriously. You'd think they'd at least explain why he's there. Or pay attention to him. They get better, but they shouldn't have HAD to get better.

I like North (aka Russian Santa), but well, he never noticed Jack trying to BREAK IN to his home for how long? You'd think having a person break into your place multiple times would catch your attention. Still, the North Pole is freaking awesome. And yes, I do love the sleigh. Everyone loves the sleigh. And the Yetis. They're cool too. Especially that one painter, such a champ.

Bunnymund (aka Easter Rabbit) is hilarious in his full size, and adorable as a tiny bunny. But even though he's the Guardian of Hope, he's not being very hopeful about the situation with Jack in the beginning. And I REALLY want to know more about this Easter incident they were talking about. The Warren was really cool too. Like, the original movie's Wonka candyland awesome.

Tooth (aka Tooth Fairy) is flighty and amusing and really bad with handling kids. Seriously, blood and gums? Ew. I like the Baby Teeth though. They're so adorable.

Sandy is awesome. So very awesome. I'm upset he was missing for a lot of the movie. I mean, he doesn't speak, but he gets his point across. He accepts Jack being on of them with minimal fuss, and is a very hilarious silent snarker.

Pitch is… understandable. I mean seriously, his center is FEAR. Wouldn't you be depressed and bleak if you brought fear everywhere you went? If no one liked/acknowledged you because they feared you? I just don't think his methods were good. Like, at all.

So, here's the end of my rant. And now off to fanfiction-land for RotG fics! :D

I'm going mainly for non-shipping fics though. This is one of those movies where I really don't want to/can't ship anyone. Romance takes away from the point, methinks.

***Written 10 months ago when I first saw the movie***

The Dark Knight Rises made me cry. Please note that I never saw the second, and barely remember the first movie.

So my best friend Anita and I went out to the movies because she's moving to Washington this week for college, and I won't see her again until Christmas. To say goodbye, went to the movies, and watched the Dark Knight Rises.

I thank God that we sat isolated from everyone else, because we weren't shushed as much as I thought we would have been.

We love Alfred. Him, Commissioner Gordon, and John Blake were out favorite characters. Oh, and Selina Kyle, obviously.

Alfred we love because he's snarky to Bruce, and really wants the best for him. Oh, and that annual vacation he took and the reasons behind it were sweet. My feels for him are deep.

Commissioner Gordon we like because he's obviously Badass Normal, knows it and owns it. Oh, and  because,to quote Batman, "Anyone can be a hero. Even a man who put a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended." We cried at that moment.

John Blake we like because he obviously has balls. He basically figured out who Batman was, understands the Mask that is Bruce Wayne, and is basically really, really awesome. Also, his name is Robin John Blake. And we last see him finding the Batcave.

Selina Kyle shouldn't even need explaining. 1) She's Catwoman. 2) She successfully stole from Bruce Wayne, aka BATMAN. 3) She kicks ass in stiletto heels with actual stilettos. 4) She's trying to start a new life, and is willing to do anything to succeed. 5) She blasted Bane with guns from the Batpod.

We also enjoyed Lucius Fox, but come on, that's Morgan Freeman right there, and he's absolutely hilarious, even when deadpanning.

Also, Bane was pretty cool. And Talia Miranda. The plan was pretty damn good. Any other city and they might have made it work.

So, long movie. I like it. The ending made me cry and cheer. After all:

1) Bruce lives.

2) Alfred gets to see his dream come true.

3) Blake is foreshadowed to become the new Batman, finding the cave and all.

4) Selina's with Bruce, and evidently has her clean slate. I bet they both do.

I leave with a quote from John Blake: "People never understand. Oh, they say they understand, but they don't, not really. They're friendly and sympathetic, at first…but eventually, the angry little kid has to grow up. I used to practice smiling in front of the mirror. But you…Bruce Wayne! Billionaire orphan! I saw you once. When you came to the orphanage. You drove up in a big fancy car, a girl on each arm…we used to make up stories about you, you know. You were a legend. And to the other kids, that's all they were. Just stories. But I knew. The second I saw you…I recognized that look on your face. It was the same smile I had."

Lucifer is one of the few comic books series I've actually read front to back. (The other being Neil Gaiman's Sandman)

So, this is basically set a little after Volume 4 of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, in which Dream goes to Hell to release his love Nada, who's been there for some thousand odd years. However, before he can do that, Lucifer Morningstar, Lightbringer, Lord of Hell and formerly known as Samael, has decided to close down Hell and leave it, and his obligations as Lord, forever.

So what he does he do now? In Volume 9 of The Sandman, you find out that Lucifer, as well as his consort Mazikeen of the Lilim who followed him, are working at a nightclub in Los Angeles called the Lux. Actually, Lucifer owns the nightclub, and Mazikeen works as a waitress. Yes, irony. The fallen ANGEL known as the LIGHTBRINGER opening up a piano bar whose name translates to LIGHT in the city of the ANGELS. Kill me.

So, Lucifer's trying to defy this predestination-shit that says that everything he does and will do has been planned out by God already. This includes creating his own universe after doing Heaven a favor and being paid for it. And while Lucifer attempts to act of his own free will, he continues to be suave, charismatic, manipulative, sociopathic, an utter bastard to the people used in his plans to defy his Father, sans Mazikeen, whom seems to be the only being he has any affection for.

I don't care to explain anymore, in fear of spoilers. So read the rest of this post at your own risk, because I will be handing out spoilers like it's candy.

Oh my goodness. I cannot believe how utterly amazing I found this series. Lucifer is indeed a bastard, but he's very open about it. He doesn't lie either, just tells you some of the truth and allows you to create your opinion from that truth. And jeez, his schemes are so insane that someone mentioned in one small arc in the beginning of the series comes back 10 volumes later as a plot point.

And seriously, if there's one part of Lucifer that should invoke some pretty warm fuzzy feelings, it should be his relationship with Mazikeen, who's awesome in her own right. She's a (berserker) warrior, a leader of the Lilim-in-Exile, and utterly devoted to him. And she seems to bring out his softer side. But only sometimes. It's worth it though. He, he says it himself, just before he leaves reality:

Lucifer: Mazikeen. When I walk away from here, everything else will fall from me like sloughed skin. You…I'll have to work to forget.

Oh, and he also gives her his powers as the Lightbringer and her face back, the latter being his wish to see her as she has first come to him in Hell, and the former being what he calls their marriage/Union. She is not impressed, and calls him out on running away and being a coward. Oh, and she scars his face, daring him to heal it and prove his cowardliness. He keeps the scar. And the next time you see Mazikeen, she introduces herself as Mazikeen Morningstar.

And the other characters are pretty cool too, but those two are my favorite.

Also, the fact that in the face of Lucifer's most defining traits, God says, as Lucifer continues to fly into the void of Creation, "Then fly far and straight my son, stop for nothing."

Oh, Ellaine Belloc is cool, being the new God, but learning from Yahweh and Lucifer's actions. And she manages to give most people happy endings before she decides to put her consciousness into the core of the universe. Except Mazikeen. Her happy ending can't be made.

I don't think I hate any of the characters, though I dislike Jill Presto, Remiel, Amenadiel, and the Basanos. Jill kinda screwed up Mazikeen by reviving her, then giving Mazikeen a whole face (Mazikeen took pride in the fact that as proof of her Lilim heritage, half her face had no skin), was raped by a magical deck of tarot cards, and was generally kinda annoying. Remiel's an idiot. Full stop. Amenadiel is a war mongering bastard who just seems really ignorant. The Basanos are aforementioned deck of magical tarot cards that attempted to take over the Universe Lucifer created, killed Lucifer (he gets better), and generally piss me off.
